Crystalspace Joins ESA Project on Generic Monitoring Camera System

We’re proud to announce CrystalSpace’s participation in a new European Space Agency (ESA) project: Contract No. 4000149091/25/NL/MGu – Generic Monitoring Camera System (GMCS). The activity is led by Skylabs as prime, with Crystalspace contributing its expertise in space-qualified imaging.

The GMCS project aims to design and qualify a cost-effective, flexible monitoring camera solution that can be easily integrated into a wide range of missions. Monitoring cameras are increasingly critical for spacecraft operations, from deployment checks and robotic navigation to long-duration mission health monitoring. This project will focus on developing a generic interface and processing box capable of supporting multiple camera types, ensuring compatibility with different mission environments while keeping system integration simple and reliable.

Crystalspace will support the project by contributing its long-standing know-how in compact, flight-proven camera systems. Our role will include providing input on state-of-the-art imaging solutions, integration considerations, and supporting qualification testing with relevant hardware. By combining our camera expertise with Skylabs’ system design leadership, the GMCS project will create a versatile monitoring platform to serve missions in Low Earth Orbit, GEO, and beyond.

This project underscores our commitment to advancing imaging solutions that make spacecraft safer, more capable, and more adaptable. We look forward to working with Skylabs, ESA, and our partners to bring this technology from design to qualification.
